Marine clouds, especially during rain, can lead to large wind variability, even at the ocean surface. Our research investigates the influence of wind heterogeneity on the exchange of momentum between the atmosphere and ocean: the wind stress. Using ultra-high resolution satellite observations of ocean surface roughness, combined with simulations and local measurements, we will map wind and stress patterns in various conditions. This will contribute to a better understanding of the role of the atmosphere in driving the ocean and aid the development of accurate wind stress formulations for high-resolution weather models and satellite sensors.
