KNMI Testbed meeting & general data complaints/suggestions

  • Ruisdael data in KDP:
    • Cabauw data
  • Testbed: combining observational data with model data
  • Radar zenith vs scanning mode: discussions on how to set it up for continuous availability for Cloudnet. Currently, set up for 15 minutes at every hour and half-hour mark.
  • (from meeting at KNMI w/ Herman, Jordi, Mariska) KDP ready to accept data -> plan to upload all pending data by September and make it fully operational by December
  • Data needed for Testbed would have to replicated (or mirrored?) from ACTRIS on KDP
  • Priority on wishlist (for our section which is majority of consumers?) is accessing data, not so much visualizing it. Everyone wants their own processing rather than simply quicklooks. This will constrain the scope for designing Testbed.
  • For Ruisdael Observation team: in KDP how do we destinguish cloud radar data that is point at zenith, and other angles
  • many routine data (e.g. LWP, soundings, lightning, etc.) not available from KNMI
  • need to know where to find data, responsible people, etc. The current catalog is already helpful if the keyword “ruisdael” is used.
  • issues known for past 3 years, people are working on it (?) – give it some time.
  • Better communication between technical teams from both sides needed. REgular communication needed
  • more regular conversations with KDP: on things we want to upload, things with want to download from KDP
  • can someone create a poll to summarize the interest in different products?

  • sharing data among all should be possible - 755 for all dirs?

Bachelor’s redesign

  • how to incorporate more climate science themes in the bachelor’s curriculum beyond solid earth? which themes to incorporate?
